Keep Your Long Line Neat
Keep excess slack coiled. Let the line out as your dog moves farther away, and take it in as they move closer. Always maintain 3–4 inches of slack.
Long Line Length
Train with a 10–15 foot long line. Longer lines tangle easily and present a safety risk if tangled around you or your dog.
Introducing the Cue
Only use "come" in Sets 3 and 4 if you believe there is a high probability your dog will respond. Would you bet $100 on it? If the answer is no, don't use the cue.
Avoid Repeating Cues
If your dog doesn't respond, don't repeat the cue. Back away and use a high-pitched "pup pup pup" to prompt movement. If that doesn't work, go back to easier situations.
Training Plan
Only use the verbal cue "come" in Sets 3 and 4 if your dog has shown strong responses in earlier sets.
