Verbal Markers
A marker can be the word "good" or "yes." Use the marker first, reinforce second. Charge your marker in these low-stress exercises so it can later be used in more challenging situations.
Check-ins with Body Language
Constant tension on leash can fuel stress and reactivity. Hold the leash with 3–4 inches of slack, a baby "j" in the leash. Mark "good" if your dog watches you for 3–4 seconds or checks in after looking at a distraction.
Left Side Heel Position
Reposition so your training mat is to your left. When working on left side heel, keep leash in your right hand and reinforce with your left hand. Use a food lure to guide your dog into position if needed.
Training Plan
4 drops. Discontinue when your dog goes 4 out of 4 times without pulling toward food.
4 sets with 60-second breaks.
